Shutterstock Signs Six Year Data Licensing Agreement with OpenAI
Shutterstock, an American technology company that provides digital imagery services, has announced a six-year agreement with OpenAI – to provide imagery data for training, testing, and benchmarking OpenAI’s artificial intelligence (AI) models.
The collaboration between the two companies includes the licensing of over one million digital images and over 600,000 video clips from Shutterstock’s expansive library. With this data, OpenAI will be able to advance their research in artificial intelligence and machine learning to better understand relationships between complex input image and output.
“In the age of AI, data is our most fundamental and powerful tool,” said Stan Pavlovsky, Shutterstock’s president and CEO. “We are incredibly proud of this collaboration with OpenAI, which underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI research and technology. At Shutterstock, we believe in leveraging our vast library of high-quality digital imagery to empower the research community.”
The agreement also enables OpenAI to accelerate and extend its research in AI and machine learning capabilities, capitalizing on Shutterstock’s digital content infrastructure. Shutterstock’s proprietary platform allows OpenAI to access its services conveniently, with access to search algorithms and a cutting-edge interface with the OpenAI portal.
OpenAI’s research serves as an integral part of its mission of exploring the possibility of creating beneficially general AI, with a large focus on understanding how systems can acquire intricate knowledge and perform complex tasks.
“At OpenAI, we are dedicated to developing the foundational technology required to advance artificial intelligence,” said Greg Brockman, OpenAI CTO and co-founder. “Partnering with Shutterstock allows us to expand our research capabilities and apply them to understanding the relationships between different image sources. We are excited to have Shutterstock as a partner in this mission and look forward to a successful collaboration.”
Shutterstock and OpenAI will also work together to make their collaboration available to other leading research groups working in the fields of AI and machine learning. As such, their collaboration helps to advance AI research and increase knowledge in these fields.
