Hidden Door’s Land of Oz experience is a game-changer in the world of interactive storytelling. Using generative AI, the game generates custom plots, characters, items, and locations in response to player choices, creating a personalized experience every time. And the best part? It all takes place in the beloved world of Oz, allowing players to explore and interact with this iconic universe like never before.
But don’t worry, Hidden Door stays true to L. Frank Baum’s original vision, creating a new extension of the Land of Oz that feels authentic and immersive. And with the ability to share scenarios between players, the possibilities for adventure are endless.
Founded in 2020, Hidden Door is staffed by a team of game developers and AI experts who are passionate about bringing beloved IPs to life in new and exciting ways. And with plans to work directly with licensors to create social roleplaying game experiences set inside various fictional worlds, the future looks bright for Hidden Door and its innovative platform.
So what are you waiting for? Enter the world of Oz and let your imagination run wild. With Hidden Door, the possibilities are endless.Hidden Door is not your typical storytelling game. It gives you a starter deck to begin your adventures, but you can also leave it up to the system to choose for you. According to founder Hilary Mason, “Once you’ve made a location or an item, or encountered a new character that the system has generated, it’s now part of your world forever.” The art is a unique combination of text and 2D art, like a webcomic. Hidden Door has pre-computed all of the components of the images, and they get assembled by an algorithm at playtime. This gives the team a lot of control to ensure consistency and that your character always looks the way they should.
The experiences aren’t long, but they are engaging. Each story has three to five scenes, and each scene takes a few minutes to complete. The story has a beginning, middle, and end, following a narrative arc. You can play as many stories in the same world as you like, and they can build on each other. Hidden Door created a platform that combines preset story setups with player choices. When the story hits a point where it can use more drama, Hidden Door pulls in a story trope to provide the drama.
Hidden Door lets the story play out as you wish, but it puts in the rails so the stories are appropriate. The team has pre-generated and hand-curated thousands of story tropes. The company started three years ago, and it has been building the engine and other things beyond the Wizard of Oz game. The idea for Hidden Door came from a couple of directions. Mason was a creative writing and computer science double major, and she played a lot of tabletop games as well as PC games during college.
Hidden Door has raised $9 million, and the company has 13 people. The company is not monetizing yet, but it has big plans for the future. According to Mason, “I don’t think the AI is a great storyteller. I don’t think that AI exists. Instead, we’ve built several curated story structures.” Hidden Door is a unique and exciting way to experience storytelling, and it’s sure to be a hit with fans of games and storytelling alike.
In a revolutionary move, Hidden Door Games has announced the launch of playtesting for their new Wizard of Oz themed video games. The games were created using groundbreaking generative AI technology to bring unique and imaginative gameplay experiences to life.
As gaming technology continues to move forward, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an increasingly important part of the gaming ecosystem. Hidden Door Games is making use of this technology by giving their creative team the ability to create unique and varied game worlds.
