Get ready for an exciting development in AI policy! Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently announced a series of AI “Insight Forums” that will shape the future of AI legislation and regulation. These forums, set to take place in September and October, will bring together the brightest minds in the industry to discuss and find solutions to the complex issues surrounding AI.
Schumer emphasized the importance of having experts at the table, engaging in meaningful conversations and answering questions, while senators and others listen and learn. This collaborative approach aims to establish a solid foundation for AI policy.
However, it’s worth noting that the first AI Insight Forum, scheduled for September 13, will be a closed-door event with no access for the press and the public. While there will be a readout following the forum, some have raised concerns about the lack of transparency.
These forums were introduced by Schumer in June, along with his SAFE Innovation Framework for AI Policy. The kickoff forum will bring together leaders in the AI industry and skeptics to discuss the role of government in AI.
