With a wave of technological innovation reshaping its workplace, Microsoft has identified an unexpected job title for its salespeople—artificial intelligence (AI) copilots.
In a previous blog post, the tech giant announced its plans to use AI-driven digital assistants to help its salespeople with tasks such as research, pitching, and negotiations. This will enable sales reps to focus on more high-value tasks such as creating better customer relationships and understanding customer needs.
For this effort, Microsoft has hired more than 100 AI experts to help “design and coach a new type of salesperson—the AI copilot.” The AI copilots will work in partnership with the sales reps—using their knowledge of the customer’s unique needs, preferences, and behaviors to suggest best practices, insights, and next steps.
This move reflects a larger trend in the tech industry, where more and more companies are turning to AI and machine learning to help solve business problems. With AI copilots at their side, Microsoft’s salespeople will be better equipped to manage a constantly evolving customer landscape and drive more personalized solutions.
Microsoft is not the only company embracing AI in its sales operations. A number of enterprise-level software providers—such as Salesforce, Oracle, and Microsoft Dynamics 365—have incorporated AI into their sales and marketing systems. These solutions are designed to automate mundane sales tasks, allowing sales teams to focus on high-value, human-driven activities, such as customer experience and creating relationships.
As the industry moves into the AI era, companies must adapt to ensure that their salespeople are prepared to capitalize on these revolutionary tools. For Microsoft, the AI copilots will help sales reps to optimize their customer engagements and deliver better results faster.
